1.
The following contest is open to legal
residents in the states of Vermont, Massachusetts,
and
New Hampshire, who are 18 years of age or
older at the time of entry. Void where prohibited.
To
enter, entrants must send a play written
by them via email to playreading@theatreshoe.com in
either a Word Document or .pdf format only
or mail
a copy of your play to TOAS Playwriting Contest,
PO Box
1012, Burlington, VT 05402-1012. All valid
entries (including author's name,
full mailing
address, telephone number, and email address)
must be received no later than October
15, 2006.
Entries received after the deadline will
not be considered for the competition. There
is no limit
on the number of entries per person, but
each entry must be mailed or emailed separately.
2. Selection of Winner: One (1) winner will be selected from all the entries
received by the
deadline conducted by a select group of TOAS individuals, hereby called "judges."
The
judges may, at its discretion, use a number of entries as part of TOAS'
play reading group to
get a feel of the flow of the plays.
By taking part in this contest, entrants
agree to abide by and
be bound by these Official Rules and all decisions of the judges whose decisions
are final with
respect to this competition.
The winner will be notified by email and/or regular
mail and will be
required to sign and return within 14 days of the date on the Official Winner's
Notification
letter an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Publicity Release form.
Failure to sign
and return these
forms in a timely manner will result in forfeiture of the prize and the selection
of an alternate
winner may be selected at the judges' discretion.
No responsibility
is assumed by the Sponsor
for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected or postage due mail/correspondence or
due to Internet
glitches resulting in the inability to receive entry. If for any reason this
competition is not
capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering,
unauthorized
intervention, fraud, technical failure or other causes which corrupt or affect
the administration,
security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition, Sponsor reserves
the right, at
its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry
process and to cancel,
terminate, modify and/or suspend the competition and randomly award the prize
from among eligible
entries received to date.
No responsibility is assumed for any human or technical,
incorrect or
inaccurate entry information, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect,
delay in operation
or transmission, communication line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized
access to or
alteration of entries; or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone
network or lines,
computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software,
failure of any email
or electronic entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic
congestion on the
Internet or at any website or any combination thereof.
3. Participation: For the purpose of this contest, an "entrant"
shall consist of
anyone submitting a play. Acceptance of the prize constitutes consent to use
winner's name
and/or likeness for editorial, advertising and publicity purposes without further
compensation. By
entering, each participant agrees to release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor,
affiliates,
advertising and promotional agencies from any and all claims, damages, liabilities
and injuries
arising out of an entrant's participation in this contest.
4. Prize: The prize includes a full production of the chosen play within one
year from the end of
the contest and $500. The winning playwright will allow TOAS to produce the winning
play without
further compensation of royalties or other monies.
TOAS will have complete ownership
of the winning
play through the production. Once the play has been produced, the playwright
will retain all rights
to the play.
The winning play must not be produced by any other company prior
to TOAS'
production. In the event that the winning play is/has been produced before TOAS'
production, the
play will become disqualified and the prize money must be returned.
5. Categories: The full length play can be in any genre to include comedy, drama,
etc. and be
about any subject; must not exceed 8 characters; and be non-musical. Any play
that is demeaning to
any culture, race, or sex (including, but not limited to, women, African Americans,
the disable,
gays/lesbians/bisexuals, and the such) will not be accepted. Plays with excessive
sets/props/costumes may not be selected.
6. Winner's List: The name of the winning playwright will be made public
on TOAS'
website at www.theatreshoe.com.
